Pikachu 2 and her surprise litter:
In 2000, my brother got a new female mouse because his old one had died. His new mouse was very cute,
sweet and of a nice fawn colour. After a few days of owning and caring for her we noticed something odd. Her stomach just
under her ribs and above her hips had grown large very quickly. We brainstormed what it might be. She could be sick (that
would be terrible!) or maybe she's pregnant? But how could she be pregnant? She was with female mice at the pet shop*. So
we waited a few days. Then, on the 24th of March my brother woke up. And he could hear these odd noises coming from her (Pikachu's)
cage. There were lots and lots of tiny, high-pitched squeaks! So my brother took a peep into her nest. And guess what was
there? 5 beautiful baby mice! There were 4 males and 1 female. We kept them all and they made great pets. I had two of the
males - Active and Splodgy (I was 10 at the time!) and my brother kept the other two males and the female (who stayed with
her mum). The males were: Hird and Lloyd and the only female was Millie (she was the runt of the litter). Millie was anything
but a runt when she grew up! She became very overweight but she was still so cute! And Lloyd, he lived the longest until he
died on Christmas Day 2002 (yes, that's 2 3/4 years!).
So that was Pikachu and her surprise litter!
*Pet shops are notorious for selling pregnant mice - its happened to us twice so far!
