It is a bit ironic really that i named my mousery 'Chubi' because really, Chubi means 'mouse' or Chubis 'mice'.
Chubi is my family's pet name for mice. It all begin in 1999 when my brother brought home a mouse from school. It's name was
Pikachu. Soon we were all in love with this mouse and when she died on the 12th March 2000 (I think) we were all very upset.
So what did we do? Go another mouse from the pet shop. Though it's not very original, my brother (or more so my Dad) named
this new mouse Pikachu 2. Though we weren't to know it then, this new little mouse was pregnant!
So on the 24th March 2000 5 little baby mice were born. 4 males and 1 female. We called this little litter of mice,
'Chubis', named after their mother, Pikachu, and this is where the name came from. Really it is supposed
to be the nickname of all the mice related to these mice but we have a theory....that all the mice we've ever had are somehow
related and are probably the great, great, great, great (etc) grandson/daughter of the first ever Pikachu.
So that's the very brief history of how i named my mousery.
Why I wanted to breed mice:
I've always wanted to breed mice since I was 10 years old. I love their friendly and curious nature and they bring so
much joy to people's lives. Mice are adorable animals and I want to see the wonders of them being brought up and to work
mainly towards good temperment and health.
How I got started:
As I've said, I've wanted to breed mice for a very long time. This dream of mine was re-sparked in September 2006 (I
have no idea how) and that's how I began.
~More soon~
What does "gA" and "bA" etc mean?
This is how I 'number' my mice. "gA" means girl A (the first girl) and therefore "gB" means girl B (the second
girl). Hence, "bA" is the first boy and "bB" is the second boy. This goes for all mice not born in my mousery.
To label litters I will use this system:
eg. Say I bred gA with bA and this produces 5 babies, 2 girls and 3 males.
The girls will be labeled:
gAA & gAB
The boys will be labeled:
bAA, bAB & bAC
Still unsure? Here is another example:
eg. Breeding gAA with bB producing 5 babies, 3 girls and 2 males.
The girls with be labeled:
gAAA, gAAB & gAAC
The boys will be labeled:
bBA & bBB
The daughter will take their mother's letter/s and the sons will take their father's letter/s. If the father is unknown
then all of the litter will take their mother's letter/s.
All this is rather irrelevent except to me. :D
